Allagash Brewing Company Takes Home a Gold and Bronze at the Great American Beer Festival This past October, Allagash Brewing Company was awarded a Gold and Bronze medal for its White and Grand Cru ales at the nation’s premier beer competition, the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado. The three-day event brings a record number of beer connoisseurs from around the world to sample more than 1600 different American Beers. The roster of beers at the GABF is the biggest collection of American beers ever presented in one location. The GABF competition and its awards are considered to be amongst the most coveted in the beer industry. Breweries enter their beers to be judged by the festival’s Professional Judge Panel. The Panel awards gold, silver, or bronze medals that are recognized around the world as symbols of brewing excellence. The ultimate goal of the GABF judge panel is to identify the three beers that best represent each of the 69 beer-style categories as described by the Great American Beer Festival. In the category of Belgian-Style White/Belgian-Style Wheat Ale, Allagash White took home the Gold Medal, with breweries from Indiana and Colorado taking Silver and Bronze, respectively. In the category of Belgian-Style Strong Specialty Ale, the Grand Cru was awarded the Bronze Medal with breweries in Delaware and Hawaii taking first and second. Allagash was in good company as only four other breweries in the New England Area were awarded medals, including Sam Adams (MA); SmuttyNose (NH), Otter Creek (VT) and The Cambridge House (CT). This is not the first time Allagash White, the brewery’s flagship ale, has garnered national attention. In 2002, the White won Gold in the GABF. In the World Beer Cup, an international beer competition, the White was awarded Gold in 1998; Bronze in 2002; and a Silver in 2004. back to archive |
