Emotional Honey

Flemish-Style Red Ale Aged in Mead Barrels

To brew Emotional Honey, we took barrels that once held mead—a drink made with fermented honey—and filled them with our Flemish-style sour red ale. The base beer uses our 2-row malted barley blend, Special B, Munich malt, and raw wheat and is hopped with Hallertau. It then rests in mead barrels for a year. If you have a tendency to get a little teary eyed from harmonious notes of stone fruit, lemon rinds, and graham cracker, then a sip of this beer might just make you emotional.

Sour Beers

Tartness can be found in a wide variety of beers—and can be added to beers in a wide variety of ways. You’ll find sourness in beer from souring bacteria, from fresh fruit, and sometimes from wild microflora floating in the Maine air.
