Allagash White is the most-awarded Wheat Beer in the world

It’s a big claim, we know. But it’s true: Allagash White is indeed the most-awarded wheat beer in the world.

Our discovery of this particular accolade is all thanks to a question from a member of our sales team: is Allagash White possibly one of the most-awarded beers of its style?

Turns out, it is.

To make this claim, we looked back and tabulated results from what we consider to be the three most prestigious beer awards in the world: World Beer Cup, Great American Beer Festival, and Euro Beer Star awards. In addition to a simple count of medals, we also pulled results and reviewed literally thousands of medal winners over decades in all categories and styles. The result was that we can confidently say that Allagash White is the most-awarded Belgian-style witbier in the world.

At all three festivals, Allagash White has earned 9 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals, and 5 Bronze medals—17 medals in all. Weighting the medals, so that Gold is worth 3 points, Silver 2 and Bronze 1, that amounts to 35 total points. The second-place Belgian-style witbier has a total of 11 medals (6G, 3S, 2B) for a total of 26 points. So, at this point, it’s a pretty comfortable margin for Allagash White.
